The study was conducted in conditions in the municipality organoponico Bayamo, Granma province, a study was conducted to assess the impact of the implementation of Biobras-16 at 7 days after transplantation in the cultivation of lettuce var. Black Seeded Simpson. We used a dose of Biobras – 16 of 20 Mg.ha -1, applied as foliar.

The design was completely randomized experiment with two treatments and three replicates, where a bed of 20 meters long constituted a treatment. Among the results is the significant difference in various indicators such as number of leaves, length and width of leaves and performance, always in favor of treatment which was applied Biobras-16,

The production and consumption of fresh vegetables in the world is becoming more and more force, due to the role of vegetables and legumes in the diet and family, its rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber, as well as their excellent buds improve appetite and help digestion of food (Casanova and Savon. 1995).

The application of new techniques and scientific findings contribute to higher yields in the cultivation of vegetables, among which are the analogues of brassinosteroids, as Biobras – 16. Together these have emerged an important group of brassinosteroids analogues that exert a strong influence on growth, plant development and hence in yields, obtaining values of up to 50% of agricultural crops in Cuba and Latin America (Gonzalez, 1998)

The use of bio-stimulants has been increasing gradually in domestic agriculture, to the extent that its application now has become common and almost indispensable in many orchards and organic farms. (N’u~nez, 2000). The biobras – 16 can be applied to various crops, ornamental plants and flowers.

Depending on the crop, apply 10-20 milligrams of active ingredient per hectare, therefore, one gram of active enough to be applied between 50 and 100 hectares. (Hidrovo, 2004)

The shortage of domestic inputs, especially mineral fertilizers, caused decreased agricultural yields in our town, demanding the investigations in the search for alternative solutions to alleviate the situation, so it has strengthened the use of development-promoting substances plant. That is why in this work we intended to “assess the Biobras-16 on growth and yield in the cultivation of lettuce in conditions organoponico.”

Materials and Methods

At the date between 12/11/1904 and 15/12/2005) in the organic farms of the “Plaza”, belonging to the enterprise Several crops were selected Bayamo 6 beds planted with Black Seeded Simpson lettuce variety, with 7 days after transplantation.

Beds were divided into two groups alternately, was applied to three brassinosteroid analog BB-16 at doses of 20mg.ha-1 on a leaf and the remainder was used as control.

The application was made in the early hours of the morning after the dew wet all leaves with a backpack of 16 liters.

20 plants were tagged to which he made the following measurements:

-Number of leaves per plant.

– Length of the leaves. (Cm)

– Width of leaves (cm

By bed-Yield (kg / beds)

-Analysis of phosphorus, calcium and vitamin C (%) per treatment.

For data processing we applied a simple classification analysis of variance using the statistical package INCA (1991)

Cultural attentions were given according to the Technical Manual and intensive orchards organoponicos (2000.)

Where treatment was applied Biobras-16 than the control with significant difference in this indicator incident and decide on the yield, surpassing by 2.3 leaves per plant.

With regard to leaf length in Table 2 shows that this indicator was favored applying Biobras-16 in culture. It was higher at 3 cm where Biobras-16 was applied, the tendency to increase this indicator in a crop as important as leaf lettuce.

As the width of the leaves (Table No.3) shows that there was a tendency to increase the width of the leaves in the areas where you applied the Biobras-16, 1.85 cm for leaves in areas where no applied the product.

These results agree well with the authors mentioned above those reported by the (Diaz, 1995) where snuff growing applications Biobras-16 increased leaf area by 30%. (Permuy, 1998), obtained as a result of the application of BB-6 in the maize growth stimulation in the parameters across the leaves. (Gonzalez, 1998), gave values of up to 22, 30 cm in length in lettuce var. Black Seeded Simpson, applying Biobras – 16 foliar form at 7 and 14 days after transplantation.

To analyze the performance of both treatments, it was noted that where applied Biobras-16, differs significantly by 5%, with the treatments, which did not apply the product, doubling the performance Fito, (1998), to evaluate the effect different times of application of Biobras-16 in different horticultural crops (cucumber, pepper, beans and tomato) showed that the brassinosteroid favored yield these, achieving the best results in cucumber and tomato when the dose was fractionated, increasing yields in 77 and 33% respectively.

On the other hand the use of Biobras-16 in field conditions in different crops has been reported, demonstrating the effectiveness of this product in higher yields in vegetables (N’u~nez, 1994, 1998), soybean (Martinez, 1995), grape (N’u~nez, 1995), snuff (Pita et al., 1998), lettuce (Gonzalez, 1998)

Table 5 shows that treatment with Biobras-16 is higher than that does not have this product in calcium and vitamin C was not so for the case of phosphorus, which is maintained with the control value.

These results are very important because it promotes two indicators are very necessary in the human diet as Ca and vitamin C, which would be good to assess other indicators to determine their influence, Gonzalez (2005), reported changes in chemical composition caused by this product in the leaves of snuff, confirming the results obtained here.


1 – In the treatment which was applied Biobras-16 there was a tendency to increase the indicators measured against a control.

2 – When performing an analysis of some indicators of quality, it is noted that two indicators are slightly favored evaluated by applying the product.
